Cisapride is a parasympathomimetic which acts as a serotonin 5-HT4 agonist. Stimulation of the 5-hydroxytryptamine receptors increases acetylcholine release in the enteric nervous system. These are sold under a trade list Prepulsid (Janssen-Ortho) & Propulsid (in the U.S.).

Clinical uses
Cisapride increases muscle tone in the esophageal sphincter in people with gastroesophageal reflux disease. It besides increases stomachic voidance inside humans by having diabetic gastroparesis. It has been utilized to address intestine constipation.

Within several countries it has been either withdrawn or even has got its indications limited due to reports all about long QT syndrome due to cisapride, which predisposes to arrhythmias.
